The council unanimously approved ordinance number 2025-29, authorizing an $800,000 supplemental appropriation for the closure of the sanitary landfill in the city. The ordinance includes the issuance of $760,000 in bonds to finance part of the project. The ordinance now awaits the mayor’s approval.

In another important development, the council approved ordinance number 2025-44, which authorizes the acquisition of a property located on Maple Avenue. This acquisition, to be completed by purchase or condemnation, is intended for recreational purposes, aligning with the city’s efforts to enhance public amenities and expand green spaces in accordance with NJSA 40:61-1. The ordinance passed without public opposition during the hearing and has been forwarded for the mayor’s consideration.

Additionally, the council discussed ordinance number 2025-45, which involves appropriating $4 million from the electric utilities capital improvement fund for improvements related to the municipal landfill non-combination redevelopment plan. The public hearing for this ordinance has been continued to July 15, 2025.

The meeting also included recognition of several retirees from city service. Resolutions were passed to honor Lewis Chicetti, Jeffrey Lawrence, and Dwight Adams for their years of service to the community. The council extended their gratitude and best wishes for their retirements, highlighting the valued contributions of city employees.
