During the public hearing for Ordinance 2024-51, no members of the audience came forward to comment. Following the hearing, the council unanimously adopted the ordinance. This legislative change is aimed at revising the compensation structure for alternate public defenders.

In addition to this, the council also approved Ordinance 2024-52 for its first reading. This ordinance aims to amend the classification and compensation plans for a part-time investigator in the Law Department. A public hearing for this ordinance is scheduled for September 24, 2024.

Several resolutions were passed to incorporate special revenue items into the city’s 2024 budget. These included funds from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ American Rescue Plan for firefighter services, totaling $70,000 and $75,000 respectively, and a Municipal Alliance Grant to prevent alcoholism and drug abuse, amounting to $23,231.

Another notable resolution concerns the authorization of a feasibility study by Atlantic City Electric for providing electric capacity to a specific city location. The cost of this study will be reimbursed by Northeast Precast LLC.

The council also approved a motion to refer a request to amend the Center City Redevelopment Plan to the city planning board. This amendment would allow the conversion of a property on East Wood Street from a vacant lot to a commercial use barber shop on the first floor, with two residential units on the second floor.

Council members congratulated Shea Santiago for her successful events representing the city and thanked volunteers and the public works department for their hard work. They also announced an upcoming Taylor Swift tribute concert at Jam Petro Park, encouraging the community to attend.
