Westampton Town Council Celebrates Women’s History Month with Student Art Contest
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Westampton Town Council meeting, the highlight was the recognition of young artists from the Westampton Intermediate School in celebration of Women’s History Month. The meeting featured presentations from student winners of the second annual Women’s History Month art contest, which encouraged students to illustrate a future where women lead, invent, explore, create, and help others.
The contest received over 40 submissions. A few standout pieces were presented by their artists, including a portrait of the iconic Selena Quintanilla by Riley Alani Torres, an homage to a beloved art teacher by Michaela Somerset, and a depiction of Beyoncé by Avery Schmidt. Each student shared personal reflections on their work, highlighting the inspiration and impact of their chosen subjects.
The council took a brief recess to allow attendees to view the displayed artworks and capture a group photo with the students and faculty.
In addition to the art contest, several routine council matters were addressed. The council passed resolutions involving municipal budget adjustments, including exceeding the 2026 municipal budget appropriation limits, appointing an alternate municipal processor, and authorizing electronic tax sales. Additionally, a resolution requesting a one-year extension for the temporary appointment of the chief financial officer was approved. A proposed ordinance to amend the zoning code for self-storage facilities was tabled for future discussion.
