The settlement is part of New Jersey’s updated affordable housing process.

Additionally, the council moved forward with two bond ordinances aimed at improving local infrastructure. The first ordinance allocates $862,000 for the expansion of the parking lot and the construction of a restroom and storage facility at the Sidfeay Hulahan Fields. The second ordinance sets aside $880,000 for replacing two synthetic turf fields at the same location, which have reached the end of their service life. These projects are anticipated to enhance the functionality and safety of the park facilities.

The meeting also highlighted community and safety initiatives. Emphasis was placed on the importance of e-bike safety as the July 19th compliance deadline approaches. New state regulations require e-bike riders to be at least 15 years old, register their bikes with the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission, and adhere to road rules. The Westfield Police Department plans to host additional e-bike safety presentations to ensure community compliance and safety.

In public safety matters, the council approved resolutions for the annual payment for the police department’s body cameras and the purchase and installation of a security system for town hall, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance security measures.
