Wildwood Crest Council Approves $8 Million Bond Ordinance
- Meeting Overview:
The Wildwood Crest Borough Council recently passed a significant bond ordinance, appropriating $8 million for various municipal projects. Additionally, the council addressed a range of topics from beach and dune construction to public safety improvements and community events.
Central to the meeting was the passage of ordinance number 1430, which saw the council approve an $8 million bond on second and final reading. This bond is set to fund several initiatives aimed at enhancing the borough’s infrastructure and community facilities. The ordinance was advertised according to law.
The council also passed ordinance number 1429, amending flood plain management fees, and advanced ordinance number 1431, which proposes regulations for murals on buildings.
In terms of ongoing projects, the council’s discussions highlighted several significant endeavors, including beach bump-out constructions, the development of the Crest Arts Pavilion, and beach and dune construction from Herford Inlet to Kem Inlet. The administrator provided updates on these initiatives, emphasizing their current stages and future milestones. The beach bump-out Rambler and North project, in particular, was noted for its progress, along with the Crest Arts Pavilion, which is poised to become a new cultural hub within Wildwood Crest.
The administrator’s report also touched on several infrastructure projects awaiting funding and approval, such as the Sunset Lake State Channel dredging project and flood mitigation projects for the Bayside Pump Station and Washington Avenue.
The engineer’s report offered insights into recently completed and upcoming projects, including the reconstruction of Work Road and the Park Boulevard sanitary sewer emergency project. The report also covered the Beach Street and Public Access Improvement phase three project’s progress and the planned 2024 Road resurfacing project. The council is pursuing grants, such as the application for the Reconstruction of Stockton Road, to support these infrastructure improvements.
Public safety was also a focal point, with the Chief of Police reporting on the department’s activities, including calls for service, criminal investigations, arrests, proactive police work, and the seizure of controlled substances and weapons. The EMS Supervisor discussed the implementation of the File of Life program and ongoing training initiatives.
Residents took the opportunity to engage with the council on various community concerns. One resident proposed dedicating a beach bench or naming the back of a lifeguard stand in memory of a loved one. Questions regarding the budget and timeline of the Beach Patrol complex project prompted a discussion among council members and attendees.
A significant cost increase due to change orders for a renovation project was also addressed, with the total contract amount rising to $2,947,505. This represents a net increase of 7.58%, with assurances that the cost would be covered by the bond, not by taxpayers directly. This discussion underlines the complex nature of long-term projects and the council’s efforts to manage fiscal responsibilities responsibly.
