Wildwood Crest Council Moves Ahead with Shared Ambulance Services and Community Safety Initiatives
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Wildwood Crest Borough Council approved a resolution for a shared daytime ambulance response agreement with neighboring municipalities, discussed pedestrian safety improvements following resident concerns, and moved forward with several ordinances and resolutions impacting local governance and infrastructure.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, is expected to optimize resources and improve response times by coordinating ambulance services across the participating municipalities.
The meeting also addressed pedestrian safety concerns at the intersection of Topeka and Atlantic Avenues, as highlighted in a letter from resident David Mir. Mir detailed a serious accident he witnessed at the location, attributing the incident to a lack of crosswalk markings and pedestrian yield signs. His correspondence urged the council to implement necessary safety measures to prevent future accidents. In response, Commissioner Franco committed to collaborating with public safety initiatives to explore potential improvements at the intersection.
Moving forward, the council tackled several ordinances, including Ordinance 1492, which amended the salary structure for borough employees. Another ordinance, 1493, introduced provisions for waiving construction fees for disabled persons’ homes to promote accessibility. Ordinance 1494 addressed restricted parking regulations, particularly for persons with disabilities and golf cart parking, and also passed without opposition.
Resolutions considered by the council included authorizing the submission of an application for enterprise zone assistance funds for the Urban Enterprise Zone program, approving refunds for various fees, and authorizing the purchase of a four-wheel-drive tractor for the Department of Public Works. These resolutions were adopted unanimously.
The council also discussed ongoing and upcoming projects, including updates on the dredging project at C View Falls. Commissioner Franco shared that the council is currently in the property acquisition phase and is working with a grant coordinator to improve the project’s benefit-cost analysis ratio, with the potential for a grant award of nearly four million dollars.
Additionally, the council touched on potential renovations for Borough Hall, including plans to relocate a flagpole and install a digital sign to improve communication with residents. These plans are subject to feedback from department heads before any decisions are finalized.
In the realm of community events, a resident named Brian provided an update on the 250th anniversary celebrations, detailing a series of activities including a food truck festival, a patriotic baby parade, a 5K run, and a live reading of the Declaration of Independence. The events aim to foster community engagement and attract participation from residents and visitors alike.
Towards the end of the meeting, the council entered an executive closed session to discuss potential employment for a deputy CFO and possible land acquisition.
