Woodbridge School Board Approves Policy Adoptions and Celebrates Student Leadership

The Personnel Committee presented a substantial 40 items for adoption. These items were also approved unanimously.
In addition to policy adoptions, the meeting highlighted student achievements. Liam Chang and Mry Patel, seniors from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, shared their experiences from the Capitol Leadership conference in Washington, D.C. Representing the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), they advocated for family and consumer sciences education. Their presentation included discussions they had with New Jersey representatives, emphasizing the impact of their education on initiatives like a sustainable fashion campaign. The board and audience responded positively, congratulating the students on their accomplishments and wishing them success in their future endeavors.
The superintendent’s report provided insights into student registration statistics, fire drills, suspension data, and bomb threat reports. This comprehensive review of district operations highlighted ongoing concerns and the importance of maintaining safety and engagement within the schools. Moreover, the report on the graduation profile for the 2024-2025 academic year revealed that most students plan to pursue higher education or enter the military. The discussion around these trends emphasized the district’s efforts to prepare students for diverse post-graduation paths amidst fluctuating college costs.
Community engagement remained a focus throughout the meeting, with the board commending schools for their participation in School Violence and Awareness Week and the Diwali food drive. Veterans Day observances further reinforced community ties, with activities like Menlo Park Terrace School’s veteran breakfast and JFK High School’s Garba dance for charity.
The board also acknowledged student initiatives promoting positive behavior and community service across various schools. These efforts, coupled with strong community partnerships, align with the district’s mission to support student outcomes.
