Woodbridge School Board Celebrates Student Achievements and Approves Key Financial Reports
- Meeting Overview:
The recent Woodbridge Township Board of Education meeting highlighted significant student accomplishments, the approval of a clean financial audit, and community engagement initiatives. Key discussions centered on the celebration of student successes in STEM and the arts, the acceptance of comprehensive financial reports, and ongoing community projects.
At the forefront of the meeting, student achievements were celebrated, particularly those of Colonia High School students. A senior representative from the school highlighted various accomplishments, including the participation of students in the National STEM Festival. Three students were distinguished as finalists for the state honor, earning an invitation to compete nationally in Washington, D.C. The school was also commended for its winter concert performances and fundraising efforts for childhood cancer research.
The establishment of chess clubs and participation in junior achievement programs were also noted.
On the financial front, the board reviewed and approved the comprehensive annual financial report and the single audit for fiscal 2025. The finance and insurance committee underscored the importance of financial transparency, expressing gratitude to those involved in achieving a clean audit. The board encouraged members to review the audit, which was made available online. This step was aimed at maintaining the trust and confidence of the stakeholders in the district’s financial management.
In addition to student and financial matters, the meeting addressed various community engagement and service initiatives. The board discussed an upcoming event organized by the Woodbridge Township Council and Mayor McCormack to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This event was highlighted as an opportunity for community participation, celebrating Dr. King’s legacy through student involvement.
Further community initiatives included preparations for the annual prom dress giveaway, encouraging donations of new or gently used dresses. This initiative aimed to support students in need, with a request for donated dresses to be dry cleaned if used. Such efforts underscore the district’s dedication to community service and student support.
Public engagement was further exemplified by the presentation from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School seniors on their FCCLA chapter’s charitable activities. Their fundraising initiative, Angel Treat, successfully raised over $3,650 in value for the Covenant House, a nonprofit aiding homeless young adults. They also shared their participation in a virtual leadership conference and announced an upcoming fundraising event, the Lip Sync Battle, highlighting the students’ proactive role in community service and leadership development.
As the meeting progressed, board members discussed ongoing and future projects, such as a planned park to replace the School 14 area, inviting public input to ensure community needs are met. Upcoming events like a teen night and a construction industry career day were announced.
