During the special meeting, it was revealed that despite the introduction of the bond ordinance in April and a public hearing, the council could not move forward with adopting the ordinance because the necessary down payment from PSNG had not been received. As a result, the council discussed rescheduling the adoption to a future date, expressing urgency due to the timing of road resurfacing projects which they aim to complete before the school year begins.

The meeting also included a brief public comment period, which saw no participation from residents. Subsequently, the council engaged in a debate over scheduling a new meeting date, taking into account the availability of council members and the necessity of providing 48 hours’ notice for a special meeting. The discussion revealed that council members are considering a hybrid meeting format to accommodate those who cannot attend in person.

Furthermore, some members voiced their concerns regarding the fiscal responsibilities of the township, the financing mechanisms for capital projects, and the political implications of the delayed ordinance. There were also acknowledgments of the efforts of town staff, including the CFO and other key department heads, in managing the town’s budget and maintaining one of the lowest debt loads in Bergen County.
