Wyckoff Town Council Meeting Discusses New Volleyball Facility, Disabled Veteran Tax Exemptions, and Community Events
- Meeting Overview:
In a meeting held on September 2, 2025, the Wyckoff Town Council covered topics including the proposal for a new volleyball facility, ordinances on tax exemptions for disabled veterans, and various community events. The session was filled with recognition of local achievements and discussions on municipal improvements.
A highlight of the meeting was the proposal put forward by Leila Bogdanski, a freshman at Ramapo High School, who suggested the establishment of a dedicated volleyball facility in Wyckoff. Bogdanski pointed out the absence of such a facility, despite the township’s robust recreational infrastructure that includes spaces for roller hockey, tennis, basketball, and baseball. She noted the growing interest in volleyball among local residents and outlined a fundraising initiative planned to support the addition of two new bounceback walls at Pulis Field and the YMCA. The proposal included transforming the existing wall at Memorial Sports facilities into a volleyball court, which would foster community engagement and provide a venue for practice and games. The council responded positively.
Subsequently, the meeting addressed a series of ordinances, including one that reclassified sections of chapter 9 and established a policy for disabled veterans and surviving spouses. This ordinance was approved without public comment, similar to other ordinances discussed during the session. These included amendments to municipal property restrictions and public access to government records, as well as a new ordinance emphasizing the underground placement of utilities where feasible.
The council also celebrated local achievements by recognizing the 2025 Wyckoff Raiders 12U travel softball team. A proclamation was read to honor the team’s accomplishments. The proclamation commended the dedication of the coaches and players and concluded with applause and a presentation of framed proclamations.
Community events featured prominently in the meeting agenda. Plans for a fireworks display on September 27 were discussed, with the event aimed at supporting local first responders and including food stands and entertainment. Additionally, a 9/11 ceremony was scheduled for September 11 at Fire Company Number One, with Brian Clark, a Tower 2 survivor, announced as the guest speaker. The council also introduced the idea of a cemetery tour in collaboration with Union Cemetery, planned around Halloween, to incorporate elements of local history.
Reports on ongoing municipal projects and maintenance were provided, including improvements to the town’s center and the Brisky House. The latter saw extensive cleanup efforts, with positive remarks on the property’s appearance following debris removal and roof maintenance. Updates were also given on the upcoming start of vegetative waste collection, limited to sticks and branches.
The meeting touched on legal proceedings involving municipal housing policies. Discussions centered around Share Housing’s objections to the township’s plans, necessitating further mediation.
