- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Wyoming City Council meeting, the city was honored with the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District’s Watershed Champion Award for 2024. The award recognized Wyoming’s enhanced street sweeping program, support for the Highway 61 Sunrise River Wetland project, and advocacy for the Heth Avenue North iron-enhanced sand filter project. During the meeting, it was noted that both Mayor Lisa Iverson and Public Works Superintendent Reeves attended the Watershed District’s annual banquet to accept the award.
The award was discussed in detail, with council members expressing pride and appreciation for the recognition. One member highlighted the involvement of a specific Public Works operator who has taken ownership of the street sweeping program, emphasizing its importance in preventing sediment from entering the storm sewer system. The program’s success was attributed to the diligent efforts of the city’s public works team, who have already completed one sweep and plan more as foliage falls.
In other significant business, the council approved the competitive negotiated sale of $1,975,000 in General Obligation Improvement Bonds, Series 2024A, with a winning bid from Brownstone Investment Group LLC at a rate of 3.22%. The bond sale will finance the city’s 2024 street improvement projects. Representatives from Baker Tilly, the city’s municipal advisor, presented the results, noting that the city’s bond rating had been upgraded from A3 to A2 by Moody’s, which will save the city an estimated $6,000 on this bond issue alone. This upgrade was attributed to the city’s robust reserves, strong local economy, and effective financial policies.
The council also declared October as Manufacturer Month in recognition of the significant impact of manufacturing businesses on the local economy. The proclamation highlights the 89 manufacturing businesses in Chisago County, which employ over 2,400 people and contribute more than $152 million in total wages. An event to celebrate Manufacturer Month will be held on October 9th at Split Rock, featuring local businesses and providing career exploration opportunities for students.
Lastly, the council mentioned an upcoming closed-door session and shared reports from recent activities.
