Upper Township Council Approves New Short-Term Rental Ordinance
- Meeting Overview:
In a move, the Upper Township Council has introduced a new ordinance that will add a chapter on short-term rentals to the township code.
The introduction of the short-term rental ordinance, number 1-2024, is expected to address growing concerns related to the rental housing market in Upper Township. The council’s decision reflects a concerted effort to establish clear guidelines and ensure the responsible usage of properties as short-term rentals. The motion received the majority’s support, with four in favor and one abstention, signaling strong council backing for the measure.
The council reported on the successful management of two recent snowstorms, where the Public Works department applied around 130 tons of salt without any equipment failures. The department’s effective response was praised, and the smooth co-op with Corbin City was noted as a complaint-free success.
The meeting welcomed Ryan McNeil from CME Engineering, who will replace a former colleague, Zach, in an engineering capacity for the township. McNeil provided updates on various ongoing engineering projects, including the Strathmere Stormwater Pumps, the Living Shoreline, and the Strathmere Beach renourishment project.
Another focus of the meeting was the upcoming budget, with discussions on a budget workshop scheduled for February 12th. The council expressed a desire to review and discuss the budget in detail, emphasizing the importance of fiscal responsibility and effective policy implementation.
The council also acknowledged the Public Works department’s diligent efforts during the recent snowstorms, thanking them for ensuring public safety and mobility. Additionally, the council approved the Ocean City High School Theater Boosters’ request to hold a bingo event at the Upper Township Community Center on April 20th, 2024.
The meeting concluded with the council moving to enter an executive session to discuss various confidential matters, including personnel, contract negotiations, and attorney-client privileged topics.
