- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Lake Como Borough Council meeting, the council appointed Donald Brun as the Lake Como Clean Committee coordinator, a role focused on maintaining the borough’s cleanliness. Additionally, the council reflected on the success of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which was praised for its organization and community impact.
The role is particularly significant as it involves overseeing efforts to maintain the borough’s aesthetics and cleanliness, which is integral to Lake Como’s appeal, especially ahead of the tourist season. The resolution 2024-54 was passed, marking Brun’s term from March 5, 2024, through December 31, 2024.
Complementing the environmental initiatives, the meeting celebrated the 51st annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade’s success. A speaker representing the parade committee thanked the council and all involved parties for their contributions to the event, which attracted close to 200,000 attendees. Coordination with local law enforcement, EMS, and the Department of Public Works (DPW) was acknowledged for ensuring the event’s safety and smooth operation.
In addition to these focal points, the council meeting addressed financial resolutions, such as payments from various accounts including water and sewer, dog licenses, and tourism. The council also discussed forthcoming events, particularly the 100th-anniversary celebrations for Lake Como, with the first event being a kickoff dinner at Joe’s Surf Shack. The council encouraged the public to participate in upcoming festivities, including a unique beer release commemorating the borough’s centennial.
Council members also expressed gratitude to the DPW and police department for their efforts during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and highlighted their visit to a local elementary school for Read Across America Day, emphasizing community engagement.
Public comments included further gratitude for the successful parade and a reminder of the upcoming Kilt Run event, expected to attract hundreds of participants. Calls for continued inclusivity and engagement with past elected officials in the borough’s centennial celebrations were also made.
