- Meeting Overview:
The Boston Licensing Board recently held a meeting that encompassed a wide range of issues, from premise inspection hearings to license changes and transfers. The most significant outcome was the discussion surrounding overcrowding at Korean Fusion Inc, which resulted in a violation and one-day suspension held in abeyance for six months, along with a mandate for a valid certificate of inspection and place of assembly.
During the premise inspection hearings, the board reviewed multiple incidents of assault and battery at various establishments, determining a mixed bag of findings with some cases yielding no violations and others confirming infractions. The focal point of these discussions was Korean Fusion Inc, where the board grappled with the establishment’s capacity issues and past adherence to regulations. The members debated the details surrounding the overcrowding event, ultimately voting for a violation that carried a one-day suspension, to be held in abeyance provided Korean Fusion Inc submits the required documentation within the stipulated timeframe.
The meeting also featured informational hearings that touched upon the nonuse of a license by 154 Maverick LLC and the security arrangements of Dublin Pub. The board requested additional details and improvements to the security plans presented.
Another segment of the meeting was the transactional hearing, where businesses sought approval for common victualer licenses. Some applications were immediately approved, while others were deferred, pending further engagement with the community and a closer examination of proposed safety and security measures.
The board also deliberated on applications for the change of management for several businesses. Approvals were granted to 6B emitz, The Dubliner, Carnation, Smashburger, and Dirty Water Dough Company. However, a slight contention emerged regarding Dirty Water Dough Company’s request to extend patio closing times. This led to a decision to defer the vote to a subsequent meeting in order to verify the consistency of patio hours across establishments on Newbury Street.
Furthermore, the board sanctioned several license transfers, including those for Zen Japanese Grill and Sushi Bar, Pacana Market, 311 Omas, Citizen M Back Bay Hotel, and The Mix. Citizen M Back Bay Hotel’s revision to extend their roof deck closing to 1 a.m. and patio to midnight was also approved.
New common victualer licenses were granted to Birdy’s Hot Chicken, Triple Eery, Show You Boston, and Wow Tika, signaling growth and diversity in the city’s dining options. Adjustments to existing licenses were confirmed for Blue Hill House of Pizza, and the board approved one-day amendments for events, allowing the service of alcoholic beverages outside the controlled area of the Newsfeed Cafe for the Boston Marathon BAA VIP event.
The meeting did not address any items under old and new business.
