Norton Select Board Approves Series of Licenses and Addresses Town Meeting Articles
- Meeting Overview:
During a recent meeting, the Norton Select Board approved a series of one-day liquor licenses, a common victualer license correction, and addressed concerns regarding upcoming town meeting articles. The board also gave the green light to an application for the sale of lottery tickets by a local business and supported the removal of several articles from the spring annual town meeting warrant.
The board approved multiple one-day Beer and Wine Liquor licenses for public events at Smoky Chestnut Farm, a location known for its rescue horses and craft fairs. These licenses were granted for events to take place on various dates throughout the year, including May 4th, June 22nd, August 17th, and October 5th, with rain dates provided for each.
Additionally, the board corrected a clerical error in a common victualer license application for a pizzeria, ensuring the establishment is correctly registered as Main Street Pizzeria, not East Main Street Pizzeria. This approval is pending final inspections by fire and building departments.
In other matters, the board addressed the sale of Massachusetts State Lottery products at V&D Smoke Shop. After confirming no issues with the establishment, they agreed to inform the state that the town has no objections to the shop selling lottery tickets.
The meeting also involved a decision to recommend the removal of articles 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 23 from the spring annual town meeting warrant. These articles pertained to inspections and repairs for local dams and other programs for which funds were already available from previous allocations, rendering the articles unnecessary.
Lastly, the board opted to postpone the discussion of town meeting articles due to time constraints, but they did express support for the Finance Committee’s recommendation to remove certain articles, including one addressing revisions to town personnel bylaws, which was deemed unnecessary as no changes to the bylaw were being made.
In announcements, a Norton cleanup day was scheduled, inviting community members to participate in a town-wide effort to tidy up public spaces.
