- Meeting Overview:
The Mullica School Board convened to discuss a variety of issues including substantial HVAC upgrades, new educational initiatives, and updates on the Aces program. The board approved several agenda items and addressed both old and new business.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the recent HVAC upgrades. The project has reached substantial completion, with only a few minor items pending resolution. The board emphasized that all HVAC units are operational except for one room that is awaiting a warranty repair. This upgrade is important for ensuring a better learning environment as the colder months approach. Final steps include installing vents and resolving some electrical issues, with the main manufacturer scheduled to address remaining concerns early next week.
Another topic was the update on the Aces program. The board expressed enthusiasm about the successful launch of the program, which aims to provide additional educational support. The initiative has already shown promise, thanks to the hard work of the staff in securing the necessary grants and organizing the program efficiently. The board acknowledged the collaborative effort of the staff and community in making this program a reality.
The meeting also covered various committee reports. The curriculum and policy committee discussed upcoming assemblies coordinated with the municipal alliance, targeting different grade levels. These include “Forest Friends” for third graders and “Escaping Debate” for seventh and eighth graders. The finance committee provided updates on lunch balances and discussed plans for maintaining the baseball field and shared services with the township. Personnel updates included new hires and ongoing negotiations with the principals and supervisors union.
In public comments, the president of the Mullica Township Education Association expressed satisfaction with the start of the new school year and highlighted the collaborative efforts of the staff and local organizations. The association is particularly pleased with the reinstatement of the Aces program and looks forward to continued collaboration with the administration.
The PTA also provided an update, noting their efforts to decorate the school for fall and collect Halloween costumes for community members in need. The PTA is moving away from Venmo for financial transactions, opting for a more secure Zelle account. They also plan to sponsor grade-appropriate activities and are gathering t-shirt sizes for a school-wide spirit wear initiative.
