Perhaps most notable was the Board’s approval of a partnership agreement with the Boys and Girls Club of Lower Bergen County. Starting in the 2023-24 academic year, this collaboration aims to enrich the after-school programming, providing students with beneficial extracurricular activities and offering parents additional support in ensuring their children are well cared for and engaged.

In a move to ensure the continuity of assistance to elementary students during the summer months, Joanne Tazyk was appointed as the elementary Student Assistance Counselor (SAC). Her employment for 50 hours throughout the summer is to be funded through the Municipal Alliance Grant.

The Board also addressed the upcoming construction activities at the FW Gavlak school. A change in the school calendar was approved to prepare for the summer construction, aiming at providing more conducive learning environments for the students.

For the students’ nourishment, the Board has contracted with the Carlstadt/East Rutherford Regional Board of Education. The agreement will ensure the delivery of breakfast and lunches at Wallington School District throughout the 2023-24 academic year. The meals will be prepared at Becton Regional High School, with prices set at $2.70 for breakfast and $4.68 for lunch, including delivery charges.

In the realm of school facilities, the Board discussed the situation with the high school’s chiller system, which had been leaking coolant. The system will require substantial repair work, including refilling the coolant. The Board proposed consulting additional companies for opinions on the necessary repairs.

The meeting also dealt with the topic of faculty and staff. Among the approved appointments were a series of resolutions pertaining to co-curricular advisorships and coaching appointments for the upcoming academic year. A notable new hire was Megan Minasian, appointed as an Elementary Speech teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, Mrs. Jody Pietrowitz was appointed as the School District Purchasing Agent, a move expected to enhance the district’s procurement processes.

During the discussion about the recently passed Teacher Appreciation Week, the board deliberated on ways to show appreciation to the teachers, with suggestions including providing a special breakfast in the last week of school.
