Originally farmland, the site became an airport in the 1930s and later evolved into one of South Jersey’s largest malls by 2007. The redevelopment project intends to restore the area’s vitality and significance within Voorhees.

A council member expressed gratitude to the former director of economic and community development, acknowledging her perseverance and hard work in advancing the project. The council member also reminisced about the site’s history, emphasizing its potential to become a central community hub once again. The approval of this resolution represents a milestone in the town’s efforts to rejuvenate the area and foster economic growth.

In other business, the council conducted second readings on ordinances authorizing property acquisitions and bond issuances to support township projects. These actions included a bond ordinance appropriating $710,000 for property acquisition, with the issuance of general obligation bonds amounting to $674,500.

The meeting also addressed various resolutions, including an extended grace period for fourth-quarter tax payments for federal employees affected by the government shutdown and authorizing investigations to determine areas in need of non-condemnation redevelopment.

Additionally, the council paid tribute to K9 Ruck, a valued member of the Voorhees Police Department, who passed away on October 21, 2025. K9 Ruck served the community since 2015 and was remembered for his dedication and service.
