David Padet, a student who has been part of the aviation program for two years, addressed the board, highlighting the demand for pilots and the positive reception of the program among students. He questioned the rationale behind limiting the program’s availability, particularly after the district invested in flight simulators. Padet argued that the investment warranted further educational opportunities. The discussions suggested that decisions regarding the program were influenced by student interest levels, which some community members felt were underestimated.

In addition to the aviation program, the meeting included significant recognitions under the Upstander program. Dr. Lis introduced Miss Camarada, who awarded students across various schools for their exemplary leadership and community service. Jaylen Hoffman was notably recognized for her leadership in the OTC program, logging over 500 hours of community service. Other students from different schools were acknowledged for their contributions to creating a positive school environment.

High school student representative Kaylee Jansen provided updates on recent school activities, including a successful senior class auction that raised funds for project graduation. She also reported on the accomplishments of the National Art Honor Society and highlighted achievements of winter sports teams, particularly the girls bowling team that excelled in tournaments.

Committee reports followed, with the finance committee discussing budget deadlines and coaching vacancies. Updates from the buildings, grounds, and transportation committee included the successful launch of a smoothie machine, snow and ice removal following a storm, and the acquisition of a new wheelchair-accessible van. The education committee shared updates on instructional programs and student supports, noting the addition of a behaviorist at Cecil Collins School to aid students in the ERRI program.

The governance committee presented motions for policy updates and school calendar revisions, while the health, safety, and technology committee reported on safety measure approvals and technology inspections. The personnel committee outlined staffing changes, including new hires and approvals for substitutes and event chaperones.

Superintendent Dr. Lis highlighted partnerships with the local Rotary Club, which donated to the district’s caring closets, providing essential items for students in need. The Rotary Club’s contributions, including a $2,500 grant, were acknowledged with appreciation.

The meeting also celebrated student achievements in essay contests sponsored by the VFW. Students from grades six through eight participated in the Patriots Pen contest, while high school students took part in the Voice of Democracy contest, with several students receiving top placements.

A public comment session included a parent’s appreciation for the high school’s aviation program, noting its significance for students aspiring to aviation careers.
