During the reorganization meeting, the Piscataway Township Board of Education conducted the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected board members. Shantell Cherry, Inieka Stafford, and Loretta Rivers took the oath of office.

Following the swearing-in, the board reported the results of the annual school election held on November 7th, 2023. Shantell Cherry received 3,916 votes, leading to her re-election, while Inieka Stafford and Loretta Rivers garnered 3,123 and 3,258 votes, respectively, securing their positions on the board.

The meeting proceeded with the election of the board’s president and vice president. Shantell Cherry was nominated and elected as president through an unanimous vote from all present board members. Dr. Tom Connors was subsequently nominated and elected as vice president, also with full support from the board.

Dr. Tom Connors, unable to attend in person, conveyed a message reiterating his commitment to the board’s mission and the educational welfare of Piscataway’s students. Connors stressed the importance of the board’s role as a model of effective governance and called for a continued focus on strategic goals to support student success.

The board then moved to reestablish its standing committees and passed a resolution to adopt the New Jersey School Board Member Code of Ethics. Each board member read aloud a section of the code, emphasizing their obligation to uphold laws and regulations, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize the educational welfare of children.

Public comment was invited, but no attendees came forward to speak. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which was passed unanimously.
