This increase, driven by rising costs and a decline in enrollment, will mean an additional $84.15 for the average homeowner with a property assessed at $163,000. Despite the proposed increase, the district remains under the state-calculated fair share for tax revenue by 58.3%.

The meeting also highlighted the sources of revenue for the district. State aid forms the bulk of funding at nearly 77%, while the tax levy accounts for 17%. Miscellaneous sources and Medicaid make up the remaining revenue. The proposed budget also details a rise in state aid by $6,729,260, contributing to a total revenue increase of $10,075,568.

The budget presentation detailed new expenditures, which include an increase in health and prescription premiums, adding significant costs to the district. Health premiums are up by 16.68%, while prescription plans have risen by 23.5%. These increases contribute substantially to the $16.2 million rise in expenses. The district also plans to hire new staff, including teachers, aides, and security personnel, and invest in infrastructure like Wi-Fi upgrades and security cameras, all contributing to the increased budget.

On the other hand, certain cost-saving measures were identified, such as not renewing shared services with the city for part-time police officers and reducing technology technician positions. The district expects to save significant amounts through these and other adjustments, including reduced utility costs from energy-saving initiatives.
