Freehold Township School Board Honors Long-Serving Educators and Celebrates Retirements

The most noteworthy aspect of the meeting was the recognition of staff members who have reached the milestone of 25 years of service. Among those honored was Lara Policowski from Applegate School, who along with Teresa Faroh Armit and Laura McGawen, received engraved pens and certificates as tokens of appreciation. The recognition segment extended to Barkal Middle School, where Mike Benjamino was acknowledged, although Kristen Fawa and Danielle George were unable to attend. From Eisenhower School, staff including Tom Kale and Lois Tarantul were celebrated. Each honoree was warmly applauded by the board and attendees.
Transitioning from current staff to retirees, the board paid tribute to those concluding their careers in the district. Judy Fonte, a teacher assistant at Applegate School for 18 years, was lauded for her unwavering support for students, particularly those with disabilities. Her retirement resolution praised her kindness and the positive impact she had on the school community.
Ray McManis, a custodian at Barkal Middle School for 19 years, was celebrated for his friendly demeanor and joyful presence. The resolution honoring McManis mentioned his family’s involvement in community events and the joy they derived from holiday traditions. His dedication and service were met with gratitude from the board.
Another retiree, Susan Perry, who served as a school secretary for 27 years, was recognized for her loyalty and the vibrant personality she brought to Barolo Middle School. Her retirement resolution highlighted her signature style and love of dancing, as well as the meaningful relationships she formed during her tenure. Reflecting on her career, Perry expressed her belief that “everything happens for a reason,” emphasizing the significance of the connections she made.
The meeting also honored Chris Erso, who spent 26 years at Barklo Middle School and served as the head building union representative since 2014. Erso’s dedication to special education and his influence on students and families were emphasized, as well as his gratitude towards colleagues who supported him throughout his career. His reflections on the support he received and the family-like atmosphere at Barklo underscored the importance of the relationships formed during his years of service.
Tom Kale from Eisenhower Middle School was also recognized for his 25 years of service as both a math teacher and a coach. Kale’s ability to make complex mathematical concepts relatable was highlighted, along with his successful coaching tenure in soccer and track.
Retirees shared personal anecdotes and reflected on their careers, expressing gratitude for the community that supported them.
