Bedminster Town Council Explores Redevelopment of Former AT&T Campus for Economic Growth
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Bedminster Town Council focused on significant economic development initiatives, including plans for redeveloping the former AT&T campus into a town center aimed at attracting businesses and enhancing community engagement. Discussions also highlighted ongoing community projects like the anticipated opening of a new retail space, updates on public safety measures, and the community garden’s progression.
The council concentrated on the future of the former AT&T campus, with a meeting held the previous week involving representatives from Choose New Jersey, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting New Jersey to businesses. The discussion revolved around collaborating with the Cheryl administration and potentially the Economic Development Authority to explore redevelopment opportunities. This move was seen as a positive step.
Besides economic development, the council addressed various community engagement activities. A local retail space, Monkeys of Somerset Hills, a high-end women’s clothing boutique, is on the verge of opening, pending sign approval. This new addition to the local business landscape was met with enthusiasm.
Public safety was another topic during the meeting. The Chief of Police provided updates on community engagement initiatives, including a successful fraud presentation at Hills Village North and a touch-a-truck event at the Primrose School. Future plans include a DUI presentation at the high school and participation in DEA Takeback Day, where residents can dispose of expired medications safely at the police headquarters. The committee underscored the importance of these events in fostering community awareness and safety.
Scams targeting residents emerged as a concern. A recent incident involved a fraudulent email using the township logo and official names to solicit a substantial payment from an applicant approved by the Bedminster Land Use Board. The council stressed the need for vigilance, urging residents to be cautious of unexpected communications and emphasizing the significance of community awareness in preventing scams.
Updates on the community garden project, a long-discussed initiative since 2020, were met with excitement. The project has garnered support from various departments and secured grants, moving closer to fruition. The community garden represents a collaborative effort to enhance local green spaces and promote community involvement in sustainable practices.
The council also discussed plans for the upcoming farmers market, which is expected to witness increased vendor participation compared to previous years. Improvements in parking and entrance arrangements are being considered to ensure safety, especially with anticipated activity due to the community garden and other events.
In other business, the Agricultural Advisory Committee approved updates to the agricultural master plan, maintaining communication with relevant staff to finalize documentation for submission. This aligns with the township’s broader strategy to support agricultural initiatives and bolster local food systems.
