Dr. Belmont highlighted that most of the changes were made to the definition section to clarify that Minnesota’s legislative updates supersede federal law in certain areas. These modifications include the addition of specific language around directory information and conditions under which educational records can be disclosed without prior consent. The policy now allows sharing personal student contact information for postsecondary transition planning services, aligning with the latest legislative requirements.

Policy 102, related to equal educational opportunity, was also reviewed. The board proposed revisions to align with MSBA recommendations, primarily rewording sections to reflect more accurate and inclusive language. This policy is crucial in ensuring non-discriminatory practices within the educational environment.
