Egg Harbor City Council Authorizes Sale of City Property Amid Festive Announcements
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Egg Harbor City Council meeting, several key resolutions were passed, including the authorization of a city property sale and budget transfers, alongside festive community announcements. The meeting also saw discussions around city improvement projects and financial adjustments.
A significant agenda item was the council’s unanimous decision to authorize the sale of city property located on Hamburg Avenue for $7,500. The property was purchased by Mr. Freck, an adjoining property owner, to prevent any potential access conflicts with his existing property. The council confirmed that there were no immediate development plans for the site. This transaction was straightforward, with council members swiftly approving the resolution after a motion and roll call.
In addition to the property sale, a resolution concerning budget transfers was passed without any questions or comments. These transfers are routine adjustments that ensure financial resources are allocated where needed as the fiscal year concludes. Another financial topic of interest was the refunding of a short beverage performance bond, subject to verification of a maintenance bond. A council member explained that performance bonds are intended to ensure funds are available for site restoration if a developer fails to complete their project, while maintenance bonds cover any minor issues post-completion. Following this clarification, the resolution received unanimous approval.
The council also addressed an overpayment refund to Verizon, linked to utility taxes calculated based on service population metrics. Verizon had overpaid taxes since 2015, and this resolution rectified the liability on the city’s books. Again, the council approved the resolution without dissent.
Furthermore, the council approved a resolution for the Neighborhood Preservation Program without questions. This program aims to enhance the quality of life in designated areas through targeted investments and improvements. Additionally, an improvement contract for Archway Green Park was awarded, signaling continued investment in community spaces. A subsequent change order for the reconstruction of Liverpool Avenue was introduced, confirming an upward adjustment. This change order also passed unanimously after a motion and roll call.
In other business, the meeting included the approval of a towing contractor for 2025 and discussions on refunding utility customers for overpayments, both of which proceeded without issues. A resolution to refund a property tax overpayment of $2,456.81 was also approved.
Towards the end of the meeting, the council authorized the PBA contract for 2025 through 2027. Despite minor numerical discrepancies on page 16 of the contract, which were noted but not significant, the contract was unanimously supported following a motion to approve.
Mayor Lisa Jiampetti took the opportunity to extend holiday greetings to the community and highlighted the upcoming Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday at 6 PM, starting on the 500 block of Philadelphia Avenue. The mayor also mentioned the reorganization meeting set for January 2nd. Council members joined in the holiday spirit, expressing gratitude towards outgoing members and welcoming new ideas from incoming ones. A council member praised a colleague for their dedication in balancing council duties with personal commitments.
