Jackson School Board Addresses Long-Term Suspensions and Superintendent Transition
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Jackson School Board meeting, pivotal topics included the long-term suspension of three students and the transition of Mr. Dan Beginsky to Superintendent. These substantial discussions were complemented by updates on district developments, student achievements, and community initiatives.
The meeting began with the introduction of three resolutions addressing the long-term suspension of students identified only as C, G, and H. The board decided that these students would remain suspended until the end of the 2025-2026 school year, with their education continuing through the district’s home instruction program. During this period, they are banned from entering any school properties or attending school-sponsored events. A mandatory re-entry meeting, involving a school counselor, is scheduled before the 2026-2027 school year, and students C and G are required to be medically cleared prior to their return. The board also ensured that families received written notice of their right to appeal these decisions.
The board then focused on a significant leadership change, with Mr. Dan Beginsky’s appointment as the new Superintendent. Transitioning from his previous role as a business administrator, Mr. Beginsky’s move to an executive leadership position marks a substantial shift for the district. The board outlined plans for a structured transition process, facilitated by the New Jersey School Boards Association. This process, to be completed within Mr. Beginsky’s first 60 days, includes technical grounding, a board self-evaluation, and a transition workshop to finalize district and board goals.
In addition to these discussions, the meeting highlighted the district’s ongoing search for bus drivers, emphasizing the rigorous hiring process that includes background checks, medical examinations, and comprehensive training. Newly hired drivers are required to undergo training for interacting with special needs students.
Updates were also provided on various district facilities, including the installation of a new circuit board for the HVAC unit at Elms, security improvements with new mirrors, and completed renovations on the varsity baseball field. The board discussed eliminating a debt service from a previous investment to reinvest funds into critical district improvements without impacting taxpayers, and plans for a community vote on this matter are underway.
Student achievements were another highlight of the meeting. Superintendent Nicole Pormilli praised the accomplishments of Jackson Township High School students, including the boys’ volleyball team’s 20-3 record and Skyler Carpenter’s Ocean County record in the 400-meter dash. The school’s AFJROTC program was also recognized for its first-place finish in a recent competition. Senior send-offs were celebrated, creating meaningful experiences for both high school and elementary students.
The board commended the high school English Department for their efforts in creating banners celebrating seniors’ college decisions. Alternative post-graduation pathways, such as trades and military enlistments, were acknowledged for their importance in students’ futures.
Further, the Jackson Township Clean Communities Cleanup initiative was promoted, encouraging community engagement with a free Great Adventure guest pass as an incentive. The board stressed the importance of strong community involvement as the school year draws to a close.
In other business, the board approved routine matters, including minutes from previous meetings and the bill list, all passed unanimously. Noteworthy financial matters included generous donations for the district’s 250-year celebration and plans to scrap outdated buses. A resolution from the New Jersey School Boards advocating for health funding solutions was supported.
