Moonachie School Board Greenlights Significant Financial and Policy Changes

In a recent convening at the Robert L. Craig School Cafeteria, the Moonachie Board of Education approved financial motions, policy adjustments, and personnel changes. Held on June 6, 2023, the board’s decisions stand to shape the educational landscape of Moonachie for the coming year.

The board granted authorization for the submission of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) grant application for 2023-2024, acknowledging a grant award of $178,026 for the academic year. Additionally, they approved the submission of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) application.

A salary increase of 3.2% for non-affiliated Moonachie Education Association staff was also greenlit. In a noteworthy administrative change, Laurel Spadavecchia was approved to serve as the Business Administrator/Board Secretary and Qualified Purchasing Agent.

Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) cases were spotlighted, with two confirmed cases for June 2023.

The board ratified a School Food Authority contract for vended meals with the Carlstadt-East Rutherford Board of Education and sealed a contract with Educational Data Services for co-op school supply purchasing. Moreover, a significant WiFi upgrade is on the horizon with the approval of the purchase of 30 Meraki MR44 WiFi units, with eyes on an E-Rate 80% reimbursement program.

Daniel Chimbay earned the Edward G. Terragni Memorial Scholarship Fund scholarship.

Roof repairs, crucial for infrastructure longevity, also received a nod from Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc.
