North Arlington School Board Approves Staff Changes, Budget Submission, and Infrastructure Upgrades

In a North Arlington Board of Education meeting on April 25, 2023, the board finalized the employment of multiple teachers and other staff, including new faces such as Emily Galow, Library Media Specialist, and Melissa Cutrali, Principal of Washington Elementary School. Concurrently, the resignations of two employees, Colleen McCrea, an Elementary School Teacher, and Angelina Tedesco-Hannon, a Special Education Aide, were accepted. The board also approved practicum placements for aspiring School Counselors, Julie Baker and Jennifer Fernandes.

In a major financial decision, the board approved the submission of the final 2023-2024 school district budget to the County Superintendent of Schools. The budget includes a General Fund of $44,093,590, a Special Revenue Fund of $3,444,170, and a Debt Service Fund of $321,366, with a Local Tax Levy of $29,990,000. Additionally, the board permitted significant budget reallocation to cater to escalating Out of District transportation costs.

In an innovative move, a new administrative position, Supervisor of Planning/Research and Education, was created, effective July 1, 2023. The board also confirmed coaching appointments for the fall 2023 sports season, with Xavier Almanzar as Volunteer Football Coach, Carlie Gallagher as Head Cheerleading Coach, and Vincent Sommese as Head Cross Country Coach among the appointees.

On the regulatory front, the board approved revisions to various policies and affirmed the Superintendent’s decision on several harassment, intimidation, and bullying investigations. Celebratory resolutions were passed designating themed weeks in May 2023, including “Teacher Appreciation Week” and “National Nurses Week”.
