Voorhees Township Honors Decorated Veteran; Affordable Housing Initiatives Advance
- Meeting Overview:
During the Voorhees Town Council meeting, Pace Elliot Brown was honored by being added to the Voorhees Veterans Wall of Honor. Additionally, the council made strides in advancing the township’s affordable housing plan, approving several resolutions related to this initiative.
The highlight of the town council meeting was the addition of Pace Elliot Brown to the Voorhees Veterans Wall of Honor. Brown, a decorated officer with 26 years of service, received recognition for his exemplary military career, which included service in Iraq, Afghanistan, and various other operations as part of the global war on terrorism. His numerous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. During his acceptance of the honor, Brown emphasized the collective effort and sacrifices of his fellow service members and the support of his family, stating, “No accomplishment in uniform is achieved alone.”
The council also moved forward with its affordable housing initiatives. A second reading of an ordinance regarding the township’s fair share housing plan was conducted, with the ordinance passed unanimously after no public comments were made. The council also approved a series of resolutions linked to affordable housing, including the endorsement of the housing element and fair share plan, the adoption of several related manuals, and a resolution of need for a new 60-unit affordable housing project. These efforts are part of Voorhees Township’s broader strategy to meet its affordable housing obligations and improve housing accessibility.
Additionally, the council authorized the appointment of Triad Associates as the administrative agent for the township’s affordable housing initiatives. In connection with the proposed 60-unit affordable housing development, the council approved a developer’s agreement with Voorhees Family Apartments LLC, alongside a payment in lieu of taxes agreement for the project.
In other business, the council announced upcoming community events, including a partnership with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to provide car inspections and a “Coffee with a Cop” session to foster communication between the police department and the public. The council also heard from a representative of the AARP Driver Safety Program, who was seeking host locations to expand the program’s reach in southern New Jersey.
