The meeting opened with the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected board members, Carol Prasa from Long Hill Township, Heather Truppo from Warren, and Michael Bernberg from Watchung. Each member took the oath of office, affirming their commitment to uphold the constitutions of the United States and New Jersey and to faithfully perform their duties.

Following the induction, Tim Stys, the School Business Administrator, presided over the election for the Board President. The first round of nominations and votes resulted in a tie, prompting a second round. Ultimately, Michael Bernberg secured the presidency with a majority vote. Dan Gall was then nominated and elected as Vice President in a separate vote, with a clear majority.

The Board moved to approve several organizational items, including the program of studies and financial matters. A point of discussion was the school meeting calendar, with a consensus to add an additional meeting in September to better manage the workload associated with the start of the academic year.

The Board then ratified a part of the contract settlement with the union, a crucial step forward for labor relations and financial planning. This settlement pertains to the current contract and the Board now looks forward to negotiating the next contract for the period beginning July 1, 2024.
