Julia Parzeki, a chemist at Merc, credited her math and science teachers for inspiring her career in a traditionally male-dominated field. Juliana, another alum who pursued cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the impact of AP science courses and her teachers’ support in developing her academic curiosity and work ethic.

Ryder Sable, a senior at West Essex, presented his independent study on child and developmental psychology. Under the guidance of Miss Blanchard, Ryder explored psychological theories and conducted a project on pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections (PANDAS). His work involved presenting mental health support strategies to school aides, which was well-received by the faculty.

The social studies and world languages department shared its adaptation of post-COVID instructional strategies, blending technology with traditional teaching. The introduction of new Spanish teachers, like Mr. Michael Sheien, who brings a unique cultural perspective from his time in Latin America, aims to enhance student engagement and learning experiences.

The district’s focus on advanced placement courses was another discussion point. The AP Capstone program, particularly AP Research, saw its highest enrollment with nine students.
