The cameras are designed to monitor activities and provide documentation in case of incidents, thus addressing public safety and liability issues.

Bolinsky’s concerns extended to the visual impact of the pole, and he questioned whether it could be relocated to a more discreet location. The council explained that the vendor had selected the pole’s position based on access to electrical infrastructure and logistical factors, such as proximity to outfall pipes. An important clarification was made that the cameras would not be directed at residential properties but would focus on the lakefront and adjacent areas.

The Chief of Police elaborated on the operational aspect, noting that although the cameras would record continuously, they would not be monitored due to personnel constraints. However, the footage could be reviewed if any safety concerns arise. While Bolinsky appreciated this information, he reiterated his concerns about the activities at the boat launch, particularly during weekends and holidays, seeking assurance of a prompt police response to any suspicious incidents.

As the meeting progressed, attention shifted to the council’s pursuit of funding through grants for local projects. Notably, there was optimism about a grant application just under $4 million, submitted for improvements in the triangle area on Park Boulevard. The council awaited a response on this front, expressing hope for securing the necessary funds. Discussions also included ongoing projects with the Army Corps, with updated plans expected for forthcoming review.

The meeting further delved into the issue of dredging, a topic of long-standing concern for the community. During the public comment session, Fred Metler, chairperson of the Wild Crest Backbay Dredging Committee, highlighted the increased use of Sunset Lake. The absence of a jet ski rental business had led to a noticeable uptick in boat activity, with over a hundred boats counted on a recent Sunday. Metler praised the tranquil enjoyment of the lake sans the noise of jet skis and reiterated the need to address sediment build-up through dredging. He urged the council to expedite efforts before the opportunity to do so diminishes, commending the commissioners for their ongoing work in this area.

Another crucial aspect of the meeting was the council’s consideration of various administrative resolutions. Among these was the authorization of a work order for sanitary sewer improvements on Park Boulevard, with a budget not exceeding $185,000 for engineering and permitting services. The resolution passed unanimously. Additionally, resolutions to refund an EMS overpayment and amend the 2026 municipal budget to accommodate additional funding from a recycling grant were adopted without dissent.

The council also authorized a contract with Cape May County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Inc., for an employee assistance program. A resolution supporting Love Blue, Inc. in their submission of a grant application funded by Atlantic City Electric was passed, alongside the approval of a shared services agreement with the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority for solid waste disposal and recycling services, effective from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.

The meeting culminated with the approval of various bids and licenses, including a notice to bidders for the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier and a licensing agreement for youth baseball games.
