The meeting featured remarks from the Superintendent of Schools, Joseph Massimino, who highlighted the program’s importance in building trust and community among students. He noted that the initiative allows high school students to make a meaningful impact by sharing their experiences with younger students, thereby enhancing the overall school environment. Massimino emphasized that such interactions help students feel more comfortable and included, fostering a sense of belonging and community spirit.

Mayor John McCormac also addressed the attendees, expressing the township’s full support for the Heroes and Cool Kids program. He shared personal anecdotes about the value of mentorship and reiterated the positive change the program brings to students’ lives. The mayor commended the high school counselors and teachers for their dedication, acknowledging their role in going beyond their regular duties to support student development.

Certificates were distributed to participating students from Woodbridge, Colonia, and JFK high schools, recognizing their contributions to the program. The students were reminded to carry forward the leadership skills they developed as they transition to the next stages of their lives.

Maggie Segarra, head of youth services for the township, concluded the event by encouraging students to continue embodying the leadership qualities nurtured through the program. She urged the graduating seniors to wear their cords with pride and to remember the impact they have made, both as leaders and role models.
