Renewable energy was another focal point of the meeting. Haley Goodman, representing Dimension Renewable Energy, sought municipal support for solar projects in Bayonne with a community solar program. Goodman highlighted the potential benefits of the proposed projects, including estimated annual savings for Bayonne residents and workforce development opportunities, introducing a promising opportunity for renewable energy access in the city.

Traffic safety was another major concern addressed during the council meeting. Councilman Carroll and other members expressed safety concerns due to multiple car accidents at the corner of 49th Street and Broadway. Carroll suggested a traffic light could mitigate blind spots and improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.

Rent control regulations were also on the agenda. Councilman Loyad Booker expressed the need for potential future amendments to the resolution to ensure peace of mind for landlords and residents. He suggested exploring additional ideas to enhance rent stabilization measures and mentioned a forthcoming resolution urging the Bayonne Housing Authority to allocate $8 million from the affordable trust fund for new housing developments.

The council also discussed several ordinances and resolutions related to tax and financial agreements with various entities. The council approved a 5-year tax agreement for a property on Avenue B and financial agreements with Bay View LLC and Bayonne Luxury Water Walk Urban Renewal LLC for different properties in the city. Director Skiller provided insights into the infrastructure considerations associated with these agreements, emphasizing the impact on stormwater management and sewer capacities.

The Interceptor project, estimated to cost $10 million and aimed at upgrading the pump station, installing new force mains, diverting sewer lines, and improving roads, was another point of discussion. Councilman Carroll, providing details on the preliminary design stages, mentioned that the project’s completion is projected in the next two to three years.
